Naver and the Ecological Society of Korea collaborate

Naver Corp. (CEO Choi Soo-yeon) signed a business agreement with the Ecological Society of Korea (Chairman Jeong Cheol-ui) on the 15th to discover biodiversity conservation measures and advance ESG management.

Through this collaboration, Naver and the Ecological Society of Korea will conduct a research survey to identify the ecological status around each Chuncheon data center and Connect One, and analyze the performance of operating the Chuncheon area business site in an eco-friendly manner for over 10 years. Based on the advice of the Ecological Society of Korea, Naver plans to pioneer environmental management policies specialized for the IT/platform industry, such as discovering biodiversity conservation activities for eco-friendly data center operation.

Meanwhile, this business agreement is the first case of collaboration between a platform company and the Korean Ecological Society. Naver plans to establish an ESG management system to reduce environmental impact in the field of biodiversity, which has recently become increasingly important in the international community, through collaboration with specialized academic circles.

Dong-A Lim, the Green Partnership leader in charge of Naver’s ESG policy, said, “As a platform company leading domestic ESG management, Naver has considered the sustainability of the ecosystem throughout the entire process of operation, from selecting the location of its headquarters and data centers,” adding, “We plan to continue communicating with academia to concretize measures to reduce our ecological impact.”

Jeong Cheol, the president of the Ecological Society of Korea and professor at Andong National University, said, “The collaboration with Naver is an important attempt to open a sustainable future, such as biodiversity conservation, through the meeting of digital and ecology, and will especially be a great motivation for future generations of ecologists.”
