Multimodal data platform specialist Miso Information Technology (CEO Dong-wook Ahn) announced on the 15th that it signed a strategic business agreement with the Korea Medical Institute (KMI, Chairman Kwang-bae Lee, hereinafter referred to as KMI), which has a domestic health screening center, for cooperation on the medical big data platform and K-Health Screening global business.
Smile Information Technology is constantly challenging and innovating the medical data platform, and is advancing the multi-modal data platform specialized in healthcare for a greater future. In particular, this year marks the 19th anniversary of its foundation, and for investment in the medical data business and global advancement, it aims to discover and prevent diseases early and promote health through health checkup data, and expand its healthcare business by sharing the health checkup medical big data platform (PHR) and K-Health Checkup global business vision with KMI Korea Medical Research Institute, which has a domestic health checkup center, to develop the domestic and international medical industry.
Since its inception, Smile Information Technology has continuously grown its medical data-centered business and has secured high trust from university hospitals, general hospitals, and public institutions nationwide. Starting with Hallym University Medical Center in 2015, it has been leading the field of building a clinical data warehouse (CDW) that de-identifies and stores clinical data such as diagnoses, prescriptions, and test results accumulated in hospitals and allows researchers to search and analyze them. Since then, through its experience in National Rehabilitation Hospital for Traffic Accidents, Chonnam National University Hospital, Yonsei University Medical Center, National Health Insurance Service Ilsan Hospital, Ajou University Medical Center, Konyang University Hospital, and Konkuk University Hospital, it has expanded its product line to the 'CRaaS' solution that closely supports the entire clinical research workflow process from raw data integration to analysis and visualization. Since last year, it has been applying a multimodal data platform to university hospitals and general hospitals nationwide, including Yonsei Medical Center, and is preparing a medical data highway platform for the future.
KMI was established in 1985 and has led the health screening market for 40 years, which has led to the accumulation of domestic screening data. The data generated from the nationwide screening center network is not only on a domestic scale in terms of quantity, but also has excellent competitiveness in terms of quality, such as the diversity of screening items and the continuity of examinations.
A representative of Smile Information Technology said, “In order to accurately understand an individual’s health status, it is necessary to integrate and analyze various medical data such as personal health records (PHR), genetics, and lifestyle habits.” He added, “If Smile Information Technology’s AI technology and big data platform, along with KMI, a domestic health screening center, accumulate and analyze health screening data, we will be able to open an era of health screenings just for me.”
KMI CEO Lee Kwang-bae said, “Based on the specialized medical level and operational know-how that KMI has accumulated over a long period of time, we will contribute to the promotion of national health through customized health checkups through a medical big data platform, while also spreading the K-health checkup so that Korea’s excellent medical system can advance into various countries.”
Mr. Ahn Dong-wook, CEO of Smile Information Technology, said, “If we accumulate health checkup data through a business partnership with KMI and utilize it, truly personalized health management will become possible.” He added, “Together with KMI, we will do our best to promote K-software not only domestically but also overseas, including in Central Asia and Europe, through our medical data platform and personalized health management services.”
Along with this business partnership between the two companies, there is also good news regarding the government's medical data policy. The 'Framework Act on the Promotion of Artificial Intelligence and Creation of a Trust Base (Framework Act on AI),' which contains the legal basis for supporting and regulating the artificial intelligence (AI) industry, passed the plenary session of the National Assembly last month, which is expected to provide momentum to the business partnership between the two companies. In addition, the government is promoting a project to build 'bio big data' that combines personal genome data, clinical information, and lifestyle habits, so it will be possible to predict and prevent the probability of occurrence of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer's, beyond standardized test items such as age and gender, and the business partnership between Smile Information Technology and KMI is expected to have a great synergy effect in the healthcare industry. In particular, it is expected to be an important opportunity to promote the global advancement of K-health checkups.
