
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced that it held the 'Ultra-Gap Startup IR' event in Silicon Valley, USA, to support the global advancement of ultra-gap deep tech startups with unique technologies in new industries such as AI and system semiconductors.
This event consisted of the 'Silicon Valley IR Demo Day' event held on the 10th (local time) for IR pitching and networking of ultra-gap startups targeting global corporations such as NVIDIA, VCs, CVCs, and US state agencies, and the 'Cerebral AI MeetUp' event on the 13th (local time) for excellent AI startups and ultra-gap startups in 'Cerebral Valley', where many US AI developers are concentrated, to meet and discuss technological exchanges and collaboration. 20 deep tech startups hoping to enter the global market in eight new industries such as system semiconductors, future mobility, and robots participated.
Among these, nine companies in the AI and big data fields, including CLIKA Co., Ltd., participated in 'CES 2025' (January 7-10) held in Las Vegas, USA, and The Wave Talk Co., Ltd. and Medicos Biotech Co., Ltd. received the Innovation Awards, the highest honor at CES 2025.
'Silicon Valley IR Demo Day' began with a congratulatory speech by Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups Kim Sung-seop, followed by global CVC reverse pitching, ultra-gap startup IR pitching, and US state government reverse pitching and networking. The event was attended by over 100 people including executives and staff from global corporations such as NVIDIA, Google, HP, and Boeing, as well as investors and technology agents such as SOSV, expressing strong interest in Korea's innovative deep-tech startups.
After the event, Vice Minister of SMEs and Startups Kim Sung-seop held a meeting with Korean startups, such as Witzen Biotechnology, that entered the U.S. market by moving into local ACs such as the Plug and Play Tech Center or receiving service support, to listen to the difficulties they face when entering the U.S. market and discuss the government’s global expansion support policies.
On the 11th (local time), legal and tax education was provided by experts such as international lawyers to help ultra-small startups reduce trial and error when entering the global market and settle in locally, and lectures were also given on investment trends in Silicon Valley.
Meanwhile, the 'Cerebral AI MeetUp' event to be held on the 13th (local time) will begin with a keynote speech by Shailesh Nalawadi, Head of Product at AI unicorn company Sendbird, followed by pitching and networking with 10 excellent US AI startups and super-gap startups, including Databricks and Zendesk, and plans to continuously provide opportunities for AI technology exchange and collaboration with US companies to excellent domestic deep tech startups.
Vice Minister Kim Sung-seop said, “The Korean government is focusing on supporting various policies to foster deep-tech startups with high technology and innovation and help them enter the global market,” adding, “Since ultra-gap startups are the best deep-tech startups in Korea that the Korean government supports and guarantees, I hope that the global investment institutions attending today’s event will actively invest in them.”
