Immersive XR tech company Olymplanet announced on the 8th that it has conducted a boot camp to cultivate 'XR content' talent in cooperation with Sungkyunkwan University.
This boot camp was conducted in accordance with the business agreement signed between Olymplait and Sungkyunkwan University last December, and was held three times in total for undergraduate students majoring in Culture and Technology Convergence at Sungkyunkwan University.
At the boot camp, Olymplanet provided hands-on training on creating immersive content using 3D assets modeled with Unreal Engine, using its XR content cloud platform, XROO. Participating students learned the theory of 3D modeling for game engines and learned how to implement virtual spaces based on 3D assets they created using Unreal Engine. Afterwards, they practiced importing 3D resources created with Unreal Engine into XROO, converting them into web-based XR content, and distributing them in URL format.
XROO is an XR content cloud platform developed by Olymplait, with a dedicated plugin available on the Unreal Engine Marketplace. The platform boasts the advantages of maintaining the visual quality of 3D assets while reducing data weight and distributing content in URL format for easy access across a variety of devices.
Kim Myeong-hyeon, CTO of Olymplaat, said, “This bootcamp is the first result of our partnership with Sungkyunkwan University, and is an industry-academia collaboration project that provides an opportunity to develop the skills needed to handle the software required to create XR content.” He added, “We plan to continue to promote programs to foster XR industry talent, such as practical hackathons and contests.”
