Green Plus , a smart farm specialist, has entered the Chinese market, one of the world's largest rice producing countries.
Green Plus announced on the 6th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with China's DAOLE to promote a 'pilot project to build an automated rice seedling farm.'
Under this agreement, Green Plus plans to establish three automated seedling demonstration farms in nurseries operated by DAOLE. Each farm will be 1 hectare (approximately 3,025 pyeong), totaling over 9,000 pyeong. After the pilot project is completed, the company plans to expand its operations nationwide in China. This project aims to revolutionize traditional Chinese rice seedling technology, enhance global agricultural competitiveness, and contribute to addressing food security.
Since 2010, Green Plus has successfully built an automated rice seedling farm measuring approximately 200,000 square meters, demonstrating its technological prowess. The company possesses proprietary technologies such as multi-stage seedling technology, an automated seedling environment control system, and automated seedling equipment. Last year, a demonstration of these technologies received high praise from relevant industry representatives, confirming their potential in the global market. This agreement is expected to mark a significant turning point in expanding Green Plus' technology into the Chinese market.
China accounts for approximately 30% of the world's rice cultivation area, with 30 million hectares under rice cultivation. Heilongjiang Province, in particular, is China's largest grain producing region, boasting over 1.8 million hectares of rice cultivation. The introduction of Green Plus' cutting-edge technology into this region is expected to significantly improve productivity and efficiency across China, contributing to sustainable agricultural development and enhanced food security.
Jeong Sun-tae, CEO of Green Plus, said, “Currently, China’s rice cultivation technology has already been automated to a level that surpasses Korea’s, but rice seedlings are still stuck in the classic seedling methods of the 1980s and 1990s in Korea.” He added, “If China transitions to an automated seedling farm based on Green Plus’s technology, its market size will be dozens of times larger than Korea’s rice seedling market.”
DAOLE, headquartered in Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, serves as the lead organization for this project. It is also working with Beidahuang Group, a key player in Chinese agricultural production, and the Chinese government to support the localization of automated rice seedling technology and explore global market expansion. Beidahuang Group is China's largest agricultural production company, with approximately 55,000 square kilometers of land under its jurisdiction, an area more than half the size of South Korea.
Jeong Sun-tae, CEO of Green Plus, said, “I am delighted that Green Plus’s unique automated rice seedling technology has been introduced to the Chinese market and has gained international recognition.” He added, “We will successfully complete this pilot project in collaboration with DAOLE and Beidahang Group, and launch a pilot complex in the first half of 2025 to fully secure the market.”
