Carbon-neutral hydrogen economy company DeCarbon announced on the 29th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GN Innovation, a company developing and commercializing medical waste sterilization and crushing equipment, to promote the medical institution waste business.
Decarbon is an eco-friendly energy company that possesses HR (Hydrogen Reactor) technology that produces high-purity hydrogen by gasifying waste plastic at high temperatures. It has been pursuing research and development and technological advancement with the goal of realizing a circular economy and carbon neutrality.
GN Innovation, a company participating in this agreement, has developed and commercialized a sterilization and crushing device that converts medical waste to general waste levels using its own technology. D-Carbon is already conducting a demonstration project for the consignment processing of medical waste sterilization and crushing.
With this agreement as a momentum, DeCarbon plans to gradually implement projects targeting medical waste generated from medical institutions, including sterilization and safe treatment, establishing a transportation system, and linking it with hydrogen production and power generation facilities. Through these efforts, the company aims to achieve a model for creating added value based on energy recovery while ensuring the stable treatment of medical waste.
The two companies will pursue cooperation in various areas, including joint use of medical and environmental infrastructure, participation in medical waste-related projects and infrastructure exchange, establishment of sterilization facilities and transport systems, linkage of hydrogen facilities and power generation facilities, establishment of a medical waste safety management system, and joint promotion and marketing.
Furthermore, to establish a joint business model, GN Innovation will classify sterilized medical waste samples by type and install the systems owned by both companies in a pilot test bed within a research complex in Seo-gu, Incheon. Furthermore, the company plans to upgrade the existing plant to new specifications and aim for trial operation in the first half of next year. DeCarbon also completed its application for the Ministry of Environment's regulatory sandbox on the 18th.
Through this agreement, DeCarbon aims to expand its medical waste disposal business beyond its consignment-based structure to include eco-friendly energy production and an ESG-based profit model. Both companies plan to simultaneously secure quantifiable ESG performance and profitability, thereby strengthening their foundation for future business expansion and investment attraction.
