Food saving platform Lucky Meal announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment to promote final discounts to reduce food waste and promote sustainable consumption.
This agreement aims to structurally reduce food waste by distributing food products that are nearing their expiration date but otherwise unsold and discarded at reasonable prices. Through this agreement, Lucky Meal plans to enhance its current last-minute discount model from a policy perspective and strengthen its role as a platform contributing to solving environmental problems.
Lucky Meal operates a closing-day discount sale, focusing on unsold products produced that day. This structure provides consumers with affordable options and alleviates the burden of disposal for small businesses. This agreement is significant in that it builds on this operational experience and track record, establishing a formal collaboration to expand closing-day discounts beyond mere promotions into a sustainable social alternative.
Lucky Meal CEO Kim Hyeon-ho said, “The closing discount is a realistic solution that can simultaneously protect the environment, support small businesses, and promote reasonable consumption,” and added, “Through this agreement with the government, we will fulfill our role as a responsible platform in solving the food waste problem.”
Going forward, Lucky Meal plans to expand its collaboration with the government and various partners to create a structure that simultaneously achieves food waste reduction and environmental and economic sustainability.
