Dangjin City announced that it will begin distributing additional AI care robots, "Chorongi" (produced by Mr. Mind), to vulnerable seniors living alone, starting on the 23rd. This move follows the distribution of care robots last year, broadening the options available to seniors and providing more advanced emotional support services.
The newly introduced "Chorongi" is a care doll with a built-in AI capsule. It goes beyond being a simple device and serves as a companion for seniors. Its natural language processing-based emotional conversational capabilities are effective in alleviating loneliness and depression.
The main functions are divided into lifestyle management, emotional support, emergency control, and monitoring. The lifestyle management function provides wake-up, meal, and medication reminders to help establish regular lifestyle habits. The emotional support function offers personalized content such as quizzes, songs, and folktales, as well as two-way emotional conversations. The emergency control function immediately sends an alarm to the control center and guardians when the senior sends a warning signal, such as "Help me," enabling a swift response. The monitoring function allows guardians and managers to monitor the senior's activity status and conversation patterns in real time through a dedicated app.
With this additional distribution, Dangjin City plans to further strengthen its 24-hour, non-face-to-face care system, complementing existing devices. In particular, the introduction of "Chorongi," a device combining radar sensors and voice recognition technology, is expected to significantly enhance emergency response capabilities.
Lim Dong-shin, head of the Senior Citizens and Disabled Persons Division, said, “As the number of elderly people living alone increases, AI robots are becoming their closest friends and safety guards,” and added, “We will continue to expand the ‘AI Smart Care Service,’ a pledge of the 8th elected government, so that elderly people living alone can enjoy a healthy old age.”
