Kim Wook, co-CEO of comprehensive content company Dexter Studios , received a commendation from the Governor of Gyeongsangbuk-do for his contributions to tourism marketing and revitalization in the province. The award was presented by Kim Nam-il, President of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Culture and Tourism Organization, which oversees cultural and tourism affairs in the province.
Dexter Studio currently operates Flashback: Gyerim, a permanent immersive media art exhibition located in the Bomun Tourist Complex in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The exhibition showcases new cultural content based on the myths and folklore of the Gyeongju region, and has been highly praised for attracting visitors of all ages, including young people, through its highly social media-friendly media art format.
Flashback: Gyerim is an immersive media art exhibition based on historytelling that implements the folktales of Silla as experiential content rather than viewing-centered content. It consists of a total of 13 exhibition contents that reinterpret major myths and folktales of Silla in a modern way, such as the myth of the birth of Park Hyeokgeose, the tale of King Munmu's national dragon, and the sacred tree Sindansu.
This exhibition, with an exhibition area of approximately 1,700 pyeong (approximately 5,500 square meters) and a ceiling height of 11 meters, is Korea's largest immersive media art exhibition hall. Through advanced VFX technology, audio, and spatial design, it has secured its competitive edge as an indoor tourist attraction. This has established Gyeongju as a new tourist attraction, unaffected by weather and season, in a region previously dominated by outdoor tourism.
Furthermore, based on the characteristics of media art that allows for nonverbal communication, it is expected to serve as a cultural platform to promote K-heritage in Gyeongju City, where the number of foreign tourists is increasing, as it can convey Korean traditional culture without language barriers.
Co-CEO Kim Wook stated that he aimed to contribute to the revitalization of local tourism by producing differentiated content based on Gyeongju's historical and cultural assets, and that he plans to continue to strengthen the local cultural competitiveness through continuous content development in the future.
