MDS Tech Strengthens CXL Alliance with AI Fabless Primemas

Embedded solutions specialist MDS Tech announced on the 13th that it is investing in AI semiconductor startup Primemas, elevating its partnership from a technology collaboration to an investment relationship and launching its AI business in earnest.

This investment builds on the technological trust MDS Tech has built by supplying its global debugging solution, TRACE32, to Primemas since 2023. Through this investment, MDS Tech plans to strengthen its position in the market for CXL (Compute Express Link), a next-generation memory interface technology.

Primemas, a deep-tech company comprised of key personnel from global SoC and memory semiconductor companies, has secured a technological edge by securing the world's first CXL 3.0 silicon. The chiplet-based CXL controller currently under development by the company is attracting attention as a next-generation platform that solves memory expansion issues in the AI data center and high-performance server markets. Its "Switchless HubletTM" architecture provides high scalability and flexibility while reducing development costs.

MDS Tech utilized TRACE32 to minimize development risks during the design and verification process for Primemas' CXL controller hardware, including RTL design verification, FPGA-based testing, and SoC bring-up (initial operation). Simultaneous control and analysis of all CPUs within the complex chiplet architecture also contributed to shortening development time and ensuring product reliability.

An MDS Tech official said, “This investment goes beyond simply providing solutions and signifies our position as a partner that supports the entire process from design to mass production for fabless companies.” They added, “Through our collaboration with Primemas, we will continue to provide technological support and investment so that Korea can secure global leadership in the next-generation memory semiconductor and interface markets.”
