Real estate proptech company Roca101 (CEO Park Jun-gil) received the Seoul Metropolitan Government's Outstanding Social Venture Award in recognition of its contributions to solving youth housing issues and urban regeneration.
Founded in 2016, Roca101 develops and operates PXZ, an AI-based multi-tenant solution for small buildings. It operates Pixel House, a remodeled, aging downtown building designed for single-person households. Currently, the company provides services through approximately 60 locations. It also has a network of approximately 1,100 partners, primarily in the metropolitan area.
This award is part of Seoul City's policy to discover and promote outstanding social ventures that contribute to solving social problems. The award is presented to companies and individuals who have created tangible social impact in the social venture sector, and only three recipients were selected this year. Roca101 received the Citizen's Award in recognition of its social value creation through youth housing stability and the revitalization of aging downtown buildings.
The total number of aging facilities renovated by Roca101 to date is 1,051 units, spanning 4,879 pyeong (approximately 16,000 sq ft), equivalent to a single public rental housing complex. This initiative is significant in that a private company has voluntarily undertaken urban regeneration projects typically undertaken by local governments or public institutions. Through this initiative, over 1,400 young people and foreigners have been provided with stable housing each year, creating a virtuous cycle that alleviates housing insecurity, revitalizes local businesses, and improves the urban environment.
In particular, the company's expansion into reusing existing, aging buildings rather than constructing new ones has garnered attention for its environmental and social sustainability. Compared to new construction, this approach reduces waste and carbon emissions, making it a valuable model for ESG practices through the utilization of idle urban space. Furthermore, by transforming previously abandoned buildings into safe living spaces, the company has also contributed to improving the environment and trustworthiness of the surrounding area.
Going forward, Loca101 plans to enhance the efficiency of its residential services and expand the supply of residential space by further enhancing its AI-based operations management solution. CEO Park Jun-gil stated that this award is recognition of the private enterprise's social responsibility and pledged to continue its efforts to achieve sustainable urban regeneration and address housing issues.
