The Korea Anti-Drone Industry Association (KADIA) and Airability Co. , Ltd. announced that they held a special seminar on "eVTOL-based Global Hybrid Threat Response" at Pangyo Techno Valley 2 on the 15th. The event was designed to re-evaluate eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft) beyond its role as a future urban transportation option and as a tactical platform for national security and public safety.
The seminar, attended by representatives from the government, military, public security, and defense industries, focused on how eVTOLs' high-speed maneuverability and multi-domain operational capabilities can be utilized to respond to modern, complex, hybrid threats. Participants highlighted their potential for rapid intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions in urban and maritime environments, as well as for initial response and command support in terrorist and infiltration situations.
The panel discussion focused on the challenges beyond the introduction of the aircraft and the actual deployment process. The need for role sharing with existing drone and helicopter forces and integration with an integrated command and control (C2) system were emphasized, and the importance of a phased demonstration project suitable for complex environments such as urban areas and borders was also highlighted. Furthermore, the potential of eVTOLs for border control and critical facility protection missions was discussed, highlighting their potential as a packaged defense export model targeting the Middle East and Southeast Asia.
Yang Byung-hee, Chairman of the Korea Drone Industry Association, emphasized that this seminar served as a starting point for strategic discussions on the practical integration of eVTOLs into national security and public safety systems. Airability CEO Lee Jin-mo noted that verifiable scenarios were presented from a field operational perspective and expressed his commitment to pursuing both practical eVTOL utilization and industrial expansion.
Based on the discussions at this seminar, the organizers plan to review related research and development (R&D) and system improvement measures and foster eVTOL as a national crisis response tool and a global export strategic asset.
