Kolon Industries completes construction of a 2.4MW on-site PPA solar power plant at its Gumi plant.

South Korea's first VPP company , Haejum (CEO Oh-Hyeon Kwon) and Next Renewables Solutions (NRS), a special purpose corporation established by GS Energy, announced on the 19th that they have completed three 2.4MW on-site PPA solar power plants combining parking lot type and rooftop type at Kolon Industries' Gumi plant.

The newly completed solar power plant is a hybrid facility utilizing parking lots and building rooftops. It can produce approximately 3.18 million kWh of renewable energy annually. This will enable Kolon Industries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 1,459 tons annually.

This project was implemented under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) between NRS and Kolon Industries, with Haejum in charge of the design and construction. The on-site PPA approach allows companies to produce and use renewable energy on-site, contributing to RE100 implementation and reducing electricity costs.

During construction, the solar power installation in the north parking lot was divided into several sections and constructed simultaneously, ensuring precise construction. This segmentation, spanning approximately 360 meters, minimized horizontal errors and ensured stability.

A Kolon Industries official said, “We expect that it will help improve the working environment by performing the function of a shade along with the power generation function.”

Kwon Oh-hyun, CEO of Haejum, said, “On-site PPA solar power is a realistic way for companies to directly produce and use renewable energy and achieve carbon neutrality,” and added, “We will continue to expand customized renewable energy and RE100 solutions for companies through various partnerships.”
