
The Korea Artificial Intelligence and Software Industry Association (KOSA, Chairman Cho Jun-hee) announced that it held a meeting with the Office for Government Policy Coordination on promoting official development assistance (ODA) using AI at the KOSA Association Universe Room in Songpa-gu, Seoul on January 20, 2026.
This meeting was organized to explore ways to leverage domestic AI technology to address key challenges in developing countries, while also leveraging ODA projects to facilitate overseas expansion and business expansion by domestic AI companies. In particular, amidst the shift from existing infrastructure and system construction-focused ODA projects to AI-based problem-solving projects, the meeting focused on examining the potential for utilizing Korean AI technology and strategies for its expansion.
The event was attended by Kim Jin-nam, Director General of the International Development Cooperation Headquarters at the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Cho Jun-hee, President of KOSA, as well as officials from the National AI Strategy Committee's Industry AX and Ecosystem Division, representatives and executives from 10 domestic AI, software, and cloud companies, and officials from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Export-Import Bank of Korea.
Participants shared examples of AI technology-based solutions to recipient country problems and the structure of ODA projects. They also exchanged opinions on policy and institutional challenges for expansion and commercialization after verification, as well as structural improvement measures to link ODA projects with overseas expansion of companies.
KOSA President Cho Jun-hee emphasized that AI-based ODA is a cooperative method that can not only solve practical problems in aid recipient countries but also promote mutual growth and coexistence among participating entities. He also announced that the association will strengthen its role as a link so that sustainable results can be created in the field of international development cooperation through a cooperative structure in which the government, public institutions, and companies participate together.
