Rainbow Research Institute changes its name to 'Arion'

Rainbow Labs Inc. announced on the 2nd that it has changed its name to "Arion," reflecting its new vision and corporate identity. This change is a strategic decision to solidify its identity as an AI technology-focused company based on proven technological prowess and trust, by adopting "Arion," its proprietary core platform, as the company name.

Arion, named after the Greek mythological horse of superhuman speed and wisdom, is a comprehensive drone AI agent platform aimed at long-range, beyond-visual-line-of-sight (BVLOS) autonomy, unmanned operation, and decision support for unmanned vehicles. It consists of an on-device AI-based mission computer, ground control software for autonomous mission execution, and a drone airframe equipped with the computer, encompassing a variety of unmanned vehicles, including multicopters, eVTOLs, and high-capacity AVVs. The company plans to use this name change to clearly define its platform-centric business structure and lay the foundation for future technological advancements and entry into the global market.

Founded in 2015 with the goal of "infinitely creative knowledge development," Rainbow Lab has focused its research and development efforts on the convergence of AI-based unmanned vehicles and artificial intelligence technologies. Early on, the lab built a technological foundation through collaborative R&D projects, including the development of a mission computer for Doosan Mobility Innovation's hydrogen fuel cell drone and the development of a flight algorithm for a guided weapon drone for the Agency for Defense Development. In 2020, the lab officially launched its proprietary Arion platform, promoting the establishment and advancement of a drone operation environment in defense, smart cities, and disaster response.

Over the past three years, the company has participated in 20 military combat experiments in field environments, lasting approximately 150 days, proving its operational capabilities. The company has also supplied surveillance and reconnaissance drones to the Navy's Fleet Command and major Army units. Furthermore, the company is expanding its business in the AI drone sector, winning contracts from the Ministry of SMEs and Startups for the development of a heavy-duty transport drone and for an AI swarm drone for early-stage wildfire suppression.

Kim Yong-deok, CEO of Arion, said, “We will reflect the spirit of challenge, execution ability, and responsibility as core values centered on the newly established persona of a strategic pioneer throughout the organization’s operations,” adding, “This is the first step toward becoming a trusted drone AI agent platform in the global defense and civilian markets.”
