Medical artificial intelligence (AI) company Lunit (CEO Seo Beom-seok) announced on the 11th that it has recently entered the outsourced interpretation market by signing a supply contract for AI image diagnosis solutions with domestic remote image interpretation centers.
This agreement will see Lunit's solutions implemented at the Korean Medical Radiology Clinic and Gangnam Radiology Clinic, both affiliated with the Korean Association of Diagnostic Imaging. Founded in 1964, the Korean Association of Diagnostic Imaging has contributed to the promotion of public health through national health screenings and early disease detection. Since 2010, it has operated its own remote imaging system to support emergency imaging interpretation in vulnerable areas of the country.
The products being introduced are Lunit's chest X-ray AI image analysis solution, "Lunit Insight CXR4," and mammography AI image analysis solution, "Lunit Insight MMG." Lunit Insight CXR4, based on 1.2 million training images, offers automated normal interpretation, past-present image comparison, and acute fracture detection, enhancing interpretation efficiency and accuracy. This introduction to a remote interpretation center marks the first such case in Korea and marks the full-scale adoption of AI in the field of remote interpretation.
The remote imaging market is experiencing growing demand due to a shortage of doctors. However, concerns have persisted regarding the consistency and reliability of interpretation quality due to the outsourcing nature of the business. Consequently, the introduction of AI solutions is gaining attention to secure trust in medical institutions and improve interpretation quality.
Since the second half of last year, Lunit has been strengthening its sales efforts in the remote imaging market and, following product demonstrations, signed contracts with all four centers. This achievement confirms the real demand for AI in the remote imaging market.
This agreement is significant for Lunit's domestic expansion. It expands its scope beyond its existing focus on supplying to top-tier comprehensive medical institutions to include the outsourced interpretation market, diversifying its business portfolio within the medical AI market.
Seo Beom-seok, CEO of Runit, said, “This contract confirms that there is demand for AI solutions even in outsourcing centers,” and added, “We will expand our business area in the domestic market by adding new sales channels to our existing business base and strengthen our strategy in the remote diagnosis market.”
The Korean Medical Radiology Clinic stated, "AI is playing a growing role in radiology interpretation, and it is helping to reduce interpretation time, improve quality, and provide psychological stability." Gangnam Radiology Clinic stated, "Using Lunit AI has helped us improve interpretation accuracy, stability, and save time, and we look forward to seeing AI technology widely utilized in imaging interpretation in the future."
