Global AI simultaneous interpretation and translation company XL8 (CEO Younghoon Jeong) announced that it is expanding the scope of application by supplying its real-time AI interpretation and translation solution Eventcat to university education sites.
XL8 provides EventCat for lectures and academic events at major Korean universities, including KAIST, Korea University, Hanyang University, Pohang University of Science and Technology, UNIST, and Chonnam National University. The company explains that it is strengthening its position in the education market as the demand for multilingual interpretation and translation services within universities grows due to the increasing number of international students.
Starting this year, the scope of application will expand to include multilingual real-time subtitles for major lectures and seminars, as well as new student orientations, domestic and international admissions information sessions, and online and offline counseling. The focus will be on simultaneously addressing the issue of domestic students' comprehension difficulties in native-language lectures and international students' marginalization in Korean-language classes.
Eventcat operates on a proprietary AI engine trained on expert-curated data accumulated over 20 years, automatic chunking technology that processes long sentences into meaningful units, and a pre-learned glossary of field-specific terminology. This provides translations that reflect colloquial language, specialized terminology, and cultural context, while enhancing the terminology accuracy of specialized courses at each university, such as biotechnology, life sciences, and real estate studies.
It also integrates with major video conferencing platforms like Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, and Webex, making it ideal for online lectures and international speaker events without requiring any additional equipment. In offline settings, attendees can scan a QR code to access subtitles and audio in their preferred language in real time on their personal devices.
EventCat plans to deploy a dedicated team of academic translation experts and AI engineers at universities planning to introduce the service, supporting the creation of a glossary of terms for each major and onboarding, and promoting expansion to individual colleges based on operational data analysis.
Meanwhile, EventCat has been adopted as the official interpretation and translation solution for the Global Humanities Conference DH2026. It is also being utilized in government education programs, such as the National IT Industry Promotion Agency's Digital Transformation Program for Developing Countries and the Overseas Koreans Agency's Next Generation Overseas Koreans Homeland Invitation Training Program, as well as major domestic academic conferences such as K-BioX, the Korean Biochip Society, the Korean Society for Trauma and Critical Care Surgery, and the Korean Digital Humanities Society.
