Selvas Healthcare announced on the 4th that its next-generation artificial intelligence (AI) Braille terminal, the BrailleSense 7 (Korean name: Hansone 7), won the main prize in the product category at the iF Design Award 2026. The product is scheduled to be officially launched in the global market this month.
The iF Design Award is considered one of the world's top three design awards, along with Germany's Red Dot Design Award and the United States' IDEA.
According to the company, BrailleSense 7 was developed jointly by professional designers and visually impaired product planners, and features a tactile design throughout. Its distinctive feature is that it allows users to recognize and operate key functions solely through touch, without visual assistance. A concave guide structure is placed in the center of the Braille keyboard to enhance accuracy when entering multiple keystrokes.
The product's exterior features a taupe brown color and a fine dot texture for enhanced tactile recognition. The company also explained that unnecessary protruding elements were minimized and the design was optimized for tactile recognition.
Technically, it combines a physical Braille display with touch sensing capabilities. Its proprietary technology, "ART (Active Responsive Touch)," integrates touch recognition onto moving Braille cells, enabling real-time distinction between reading actions and control inputs.
Additionally, it supports cloud- and on-device-based AI functions by incorporating Google's AI model, Gemini. This enables a variety of applications, including document creation, information retrieval, and learning assistance.
Selvas Healthcare plans to unveil three models of the BrailSense 7 series at the CSUN Assistive Technology Conference to be held in the United States this month.
CEO Yoo Byung-tak said that the BrailleSense 7 is a product that combines technological innovation and user-centered design, and that the global launch will serve as an opportunity to expand the company's position in the global assistive technology market.
Recently, the global assistive technology market has been actively developing AI-integrated products.
