L&F and ABB Sign MOU to Expand Manufacturing Innovation

L&F announced that it signed a business agreement (MOU) with Daegu Metropolitan City, Daegu Techno Park, and LS Electric for the 'Expansion of Powerful ABB (Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Blockchain) Technology' at the 'Smart Factory & Automation Industry Exhibition (AW 2026)' held at COEX in Seoul on the 5th.

This agreement aims to expand digital transformation (DX) across the regional manufacturing industry beyond the pilot phase for specific companies. The participating organizations agreed to collaborate on disseminating manufacturing innovation technologies based on AI, big data, and blockchain to local companies and fostering a sustainable manufacturing innovation ecosystem.

Areas of cooperation include ABB technology training and dissemination, support for building ABB-based smart factories, identifying industrial needs and sharing proven cases, and fostering collaboration networks between companies.

L&F will be responsible for providing field demonstration cases within the agreement. Through the "Powerful ABB Demonstration Factory Construction and Utilization Project," the company is pursuing six key use cases: an E2E-based facility predictive maintenance system, an AI-based quality management system, and an E2E-based LCA-centered carbon-neutral management system.

In particular, its AI-based quality management system and blockchain-based data management system recently secured V&V (Verification & Validation) certification from the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) of Korea, securing technological reliability. Based on the experience accumulated during the demonstration process, L&F plans to share key issues and solutions at each stage of technology adoption, providing operational examples that other companies can reference.

Each organization will share roles in the collaborative process. Daegu Metropolitan City will oversee the project and develop expansion strategies, operating a support system that integrates support programs, consulting, human resource development, and public relations. Daegu Technopark will provide practical support, including identifying on-site needs for manufacturing companies, providing training and consulting, and matching suppliers with demanders. As the technology lead, LS Electric plans to establish an ABB standard architecture and solution system based on proven results and promote technology dissemination.

The participating organizations will monitor the progress of the project through regular meetings and plan to begin recruiting participating companies and operating training programs in the first half of this year. In the second half of the year, they plan to select pilot companies and provide support for their phased implementation. Based on successful cases, they plan to expand the program nationwide.

An L&F official said, “We expect this to be an opportunity to share ABB’s proven operational experience and technological capabilities with the local industrial ecosystem,” adding, “We plan to continue our collaboration to help local manufacturers reduce the trial and error they experience during their digital transformation and achieve tangible results.”

Meanwhile, as demand for digital transformation in the manufacturing industry expands, collaborative projects to build AI- and big data-based smart factories and utilize industrial data are on the rise across the domestic manufacturing industry.
