MDS Korea files for a patent for vegan chicken.

Food manufacturing company MDS Korea (CEO Dong-jun Moon) announced on the 11th that it has applied for a patent for its vegan chicken manufacturing technology and is entering the next-generation protein food market. This technology is a plant-based protein-based product that achieves a texture and elasticity similar to real chicken, and is characterized by low calories and zero cholesterol.

An MDS Korea representative explained that this technology focuses on next-generation protein foods that expand consumer choices beyond simple meat replacement, and that it maintains flavor, color, and texture even after frying, making it possible to create vegan fried chicken products. The patented product will be supplied under the "VeggieM" brand and will be distributed to various distribution channels, including convenience stores, large supermarkets, and food service providers.

Since its founding in 1995, MDS Korea has grown based on its salad and HMR manufacturing business, supplying products to domestic and international distribution channels through its own brand and private label products. Currently, its four production plants are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and hygiene management systems, ensuring stability throughout the entire process. The company is expanding its alternative protein food portfolio, leveraging its existing patent for vegan salmon fillets. Going forward, the company plans to expand into new product lines, including vegan convenience foods and protein food ingredients, to generate synergy with its OEM business.

MDS Korea CEO Dong-Jun Moon said, “We will introduce competitive products in the next-generation protein food sector in line with the changes in the food industry that reflect consumer values such as health, environment, and sustainability,” and announced that they will expand their portfolio by strengthening their position in the existing convenience store-centered food business.

This patent application and commercialization are evaluated as moves to strengthen the competitiveness of domestic plant-based protein products in the rapidly growing global alternative food market.
