Glassdom announced on the 12th that it has completed the construction of a Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) platform for manufacturing companies in response to the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and third-party verification.
Through this project, Glassdome established a measurement infrastructure and a CBAM MRV platform to collect factory energy data based on actual measurements from three steel and aluminum manufacturers: Alus, Seogwang Hi-Tech, and Korea Powder Metallurgy. The collected data and calculation results were verified by Lloyd's Register (LRQA), which is an EU ETS verification body and plans to be registered as a CBAM accredited verification body in the future.
Glassdom's CBAM MRV platform provides a one-stop solution for the entire MRV process, including product identification, production process monitoring, automated carbon emissions calculation, reporting, and third-party verification. A Glassdom representative explained, "With this single platform, companies can reduce administrative procedures, consulting, and verification costs, and manage potential carbon cost risks when exporting to the EU." "This platform will also enable companies to develop future carbon reduction strategies and meet global supply chain demands."
Starting with the implementation of the CBAM MRV platform with three steel and aluminum companies, Glassdome plans to offer the platform to more than 20 export manufacturing companies within the year. The EU implemented CBAM in January of this year, mandating emissions measurement, reporting, and certification for carbon-intensive products like steel and aluminum exported to the EU. Starting in 2028, the scope of the regulation will be expanded to include end-use goods like auto parts and home appliances.
A Seogwang Hi-Tech official stated, "We had difficulties preparing our own CBAM response system, but the Glass Dome platform allows us to accurately calculate and verify carbon emissions based on actual data." Glass Dome CEO Ham Jin-ki stated, "The core of our CBAM response is establishing a digital carbon management system based on actual data. We will support even companies lacking specialized personnel to systematically respond."
In recent years, the global manufacturing industry has been rapidly adopting MRV platforms and digital carbon management solutions to address carbon regulations such as CBAM.
