BluePoint Launches 'Raptors,' a Platform to Support Startups' Entry into the Defense Industry

BluePoint Partners announced on the 13th that it is officially launching 'RAPTORS,' a platform designed to support startups' entry into the battlefield and defense industries.

Raptors was planned with the aim of seeking new innovation opportunities by connecting the technology and ideas of startups to the defense industry, which has high entry barriers and is structurally closed. The name was inspired by the agile carnivorous dinosaur, the Velociraptor. The first event, "RAPTORS – The Beginning," is scheduled to be held on the 3rd of next month at the Maru 180 Event Hall in Yeoksam-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul.

This platform serves as a connecting channel to support startups in entering the defense industry by establishing contacts with various stakeholders, including the military, government agencies, and defense companies. The plan is to assist startups in exploring strategies for entering the defense market and actual business opportunities through seminars, networking programs, and introductions to global defense innovation hubs.

Recently, there has been a growing global trend of actively introducing civilian technology into the defense sector. Various defense innovation programs, including the 'FUZE' program jointly promoted by the U.S. Army and Y Combinator, Europe's EDTH (Europe Defence Tech Hub), and NATO's 'DIANA (Defense Innovation Accelerator for the North Atlantic),' are playing a role in connecting startups with the military.

BluePoint Partners planned Raptors, recognizing the growing need for a platform connecting startups and the defense industry in Korea to align with these global trends. The first seminar is designed to introduce relevant entry pathways and case studies for startups seeking to enter the battlefield and defense markets, companies possessing 'Dual Use' technologies, and teams considering expansion into the defense sector.

The event is scheduled to feature an introduction to the Global Defense Innovation Program, presentations on startups entering the defense sector, and networking programs among military, government, and industry officials.

Lee In-sung, Head of Bluepoint Venture Studio Group, stated, “Recently, startups have been emerging globally as key players in defense technology innovation,” adding, “Through Raptors, we plan to establish a foundation for cooperation among startups, the military, the government, and the industry, and support the formation of a defense innovation ecosystem in Korea.”

Recently, as the global defense industry expands its efforts to integrate advanced civilian technologies such as AI, robotics, and autonomous driving into the defense sector, cooperation programs between startups and defense agencies are rapidly increasing.
