Modusign and Sunwoon Law Firm Sign Strategic Partnership for AI Contract Management in Franchise Businesses

Modusign (CEO Lee Young-jun), an AI contract platform company, announced on the 13th that it has signed a strategic partnership with Law Firm Sunwoon (Managing Partner Lee Dong-ik), a firm specializing in fair trade and franchise business law. This collaboration was established to enable franchisors to proactively identify and systematically respond to legal risks that may arise throughout the entire contract lifecycle, including contract signing, renewal, and expiration.

According to data from the Fair Trade Commission, as of the end of 2024, there were 8,802 domestic franchisors and 365,014 franchisees. Many franchisors rely on manual work or decentralized systems to manage hundreds of contracts, leaving them exposed to structural risks such as management omissions, deadlines, and legal disputes. In fact, among the 584 franchise business transaction dispute mediation cases received in 2024, claims for excessive penalties related to contract termination accounted for the highest proportion at 143 cases (24%).

Modusign provides features such as automatic contract classification, real-time search for key clauses, and automatic renewal date notifications through its AI-based contract management solution, 'Cabinet.' As a result of utilizing Cabinet, the time required for a full search to find contracts meeting specific conditions was reduced from 16 hours to 30 seconds, and the processing time for large-scale tasks, such as year-end store entry and exit management, was cut from 12 hours to 5 minutes.

Law Firm Sunwoon operates with a core of lawyers from the Fair Trade Commission and was the only domestic law firm to receive a "Highly Recommended" rating in the 2025 Global Competition Review (GCR) evaluation. Managing Partner Lee Dong-ik stated, "Many disputes involving franchisors arise from management gaps after contracts are signed," adding, "Disputes can be prevented by combining legal advice with AI contract management technology."

Lee Young-jun, CEO of Modusign, stated, “Based on contract data from 330,000 companies, we have established an environment where franchisors can efficiently manage the entire contract process,” adding, “By combining this with Sunwoon’s legal expertise, we will set a new standard that simultaneously secures data-driven contract management and legal trust.”

As the first step of this partnership, the two companies will hold a joint webinar for franchisors and plan to continuously enhance contract management solutions specialized for franchise businesses in the future.

Recently, the domestic franchise and franchise industry has seen an increasing number of cases combining AI-based contract management solutions with legal consulting, leading to a growing trend of simultaneously enhancing contract efficiency and dispute prevention.
