JO (CEO Kang Deuk-ju) announced on the 17th that it will begin supplying low-wall carbon nanotubes (TWCNT) to battery manufacturer CATL on a large scale.
According to the company, CATL has expanded its supply contract by requesting regular monthly production and supply, unlike its past sporadic use of TWCNT. Accordingly, JO plans to supply at least 100 tons of TWCNT this year.
JO's TWCNT has already been applied to some of CATL's high-performance batteries, and this contract enables mass supply, reaffirming its technological capabilities and product reliability. CATL plans to supply next-generation batteries incorporating this TWCNT to the European and Chinese markets. Through this, JO is able to reduce its dependence on the North American market and pursue market diversification.
Currently, in the global secondary battery market, there is a growing trend toward adopting TWCNTs to enhance performance, replacing conventional multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). While numerous Chinese MWCNT suppliers exist, only a handful possess TWCNT production capabilities, and JO is considered the only global company capable of supplying TWCNTs alongside MWCNTs and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs).
JO plans to expand its leading position in the global CNT market based on its TWCNT patents and technological competitiveness. A company official stated, "Through CATL's regular expansion of TWCNT demand, we will diversify our client base, products, and markets, and simultaneously achieve CNT sales growth and a recovery in facility utilization rates."
