TerraVue Announces Commercialization Strategy for 6G Core Technology 'Terahertz'

Terahertz technology company TerraVue announced its strategy for developing and commercializing core technologies necessary for the implementation of 6G, the next generation of mobile communication.

The company explained that interest in related technologies and proposals for cooperation are increasing as terahertz (THz) frequencies and digital twin technology were presented as key infrastructure for 6G at 'MWC 2026' recently held in Barcelona, Spain.

6G is a next-generation communication technology that goes beyond existing 4G and 5G to expand connections between people and devices, aiming for the 'Internet of Everything (IoE),' where all objects and the environment are connected. According to TerraVue, THz-based 6G is characterized by implementing an integrated network that combines not only communication functions but also sensing and data processing capabilities.

If these technologies are commercialized, an environment will be established where devices and artificial intelligence autonomously analyze data and communicate, enabling hyper-connected networks with significantly improved bandwidth and connection density compared to existing ones. Furthermore, the establishment of a wide-ranging communication environment utilizing low-orbit satellites is also anticipated.

In the 6G environment, a distributed architecture is expected to expand, in which artificial intelligence functions are embedded within the network itself to automatically optimize resource management and data transmission. This refers to an intelligent network system where AI is applied across the entire spectrum, from devices to the cloud.

The key elements of 6G presented by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) include ultra-high performance, ultra-low latency, ultra-connectivity, wide-area coverage, AI-based infrastructure, and the convergence of sensing and communication. Terraview believes that its THz technology has high utility, particularly in the area of combined sensing and communication.

For example, material property analysis is important for implementing 'Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS)' technology, which controls the reflection and transmission direction of radio waves, and Terraview's measurement equipment supports precise analysis in the relevant frequency band, which can be utilized in the development of related technologies.

TeraView has accumulated about 25 years of experience in designing and manufacturing terahertz sensors, and based on this, provides sensing and imaging technologies required in 6G environments.

In the short term, the company plans to expand cooperation with telecommunications operators based on existing technologies to increase demonstration and application cases, and in the mid-to-long term, it aims to secure a leading position in the market by developing application technologies that combine ultra-precision sensing and imaging capabilities.

When 6G is fully introduced, mobile devices are expected to be utilized in various fields beyond simple communication, such as environmental sensing, food analysis, telemedicine, and virtual reality interfaces.

Terraview is currently in discussions with major telecommunications operators in Asia and Europe regarding cooperation, and is continuously pursuing the expansion of related technology applications and market entry.

Meanwhile, in the global telecommunications industry, research and development competition to secure terahertz and AI-based network technologies is intensifying ahead of the commercialization of 6G.
