Korea Self-Reliance Welfare Development Institute, 'Joint Academic Conference Industry-Academic Session to Commemorate 10th Anniversary of Social Security Benefits Act Enforcement' Held

On Friday, June 13, the Korea Institute for Independent Living held an industry-academic session as part of the 'Joint Academic Conference Commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the Enforcement of the Social Security Benefits Act' at the Venetian Hotel & Resort Capri III in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do.

This session was organized under the theme of ‘Cases of self-reliance projects related to community-based integrated care’ to explore the role that self-reliance projects play in the community-based integrated care system and the possibility of future expansion.

The session presented various practical cases that linked self-reliance business and integrated care. Ahn Hye-kyung, the director of Busan Care Medical Welfare Social Cooperative, introduced the way self-reliance businesses respond to care needs in the region and actual operating cases through 'Cases of self-reliance businesses preparing for integrated care'. Park Mi-ra, the director of Gangwon Metropolitan Self-reliance Center, presented 'Experiences in implementing self-reliance-based care services in the Gangwon region and linkage plans' and explained the current status of regional self-reliance services and the possibility of linking policies.

In the discussion that followed, Son Hong-beom, Director of the Self-reliance Policy Support Office at the Korea Self-reliance Welfare Development Institute, presented future tasks for the self-reliance sector under the topic of “Looking forward to establishing and expanding the role of the self-reliance sector in the integrated care system,” while Lim Hyeong-seok, Director of the Gwangju Medical Welfare Social Cooperative Our Neighborhood Council and Lee Bo-young, Secretary-General of the Korea Self-reliance Enterprise Association, discussed the development direction of medical care and self-reliance enterprises, respectively, and pointed out the points of contact between integrated care and self-reliance businesses from various perspectives.

Jeong Hae-sik, the director of the Korea Self-Reliance Welfare Development Institute, said, “Self-reliance projects have been performing care functions through various activities such as living support, emotional care, and improving living environments for vulnerable groups in local communities even before the concept of integrated care was introduced,” and added, “This industry-academia session is an opportunity to confirm that self-reliance is establishing itself as an important axis in the integrated care system of local communities, going beyond simple job support.” He added, “We will continue to strengthen the connection between integrated care and self-reliance projects to create a sustainable regional welfare model.”
