– Understand gift preferences and situations through conversations with customers… Provide personalized shopping experience
– AI comprehensively analyzes artwork details, customer order reviews, etc. to recommend the most suitable gift

'Ideas', the largest handmade marketplace in Korea operated by Backpacker Co., Ltd. (CEO Dong-hwan Kim), announced on the 16th that it has launched the gift recommendation AI agent 'Dear'.
Dear is a conversational product recommendation AI agent based on a Large Language Model (LLM). When Ideas customers leave questions to the chatbot in the Dear chat window on the 'Gift Recommendation' tab and the 'Search Results' screen, such as 'Choose a birthday gift for a woman in her 30s' or 'Recommend a housewarming gift,' Dear identifies the gift target and situation, then comprehensively analyzes detailed information on artwork registered in Ideas and customer order reviews to recommend the most suitable gift.
In particular, Ideas has applied its own MCP (Model Context Protocol) method so that Deer can actively understand the customer's intention and flexibly continue the conversation, and it plans to continuously improve its functions so that it can remember and utilize more diverse information such as customer preferences and interest categories learned during the conversation in future consultations.
Ideas, which previously provided interest-based recommendation functions, has implemented a more precise personalized shopping experience with the launch of Dear. The biggest feature of Dear is that it is capable of making recommendations that delicately reflect the customer's tastes and situations through conversation rather than simply listing products.
In addition, Ideas applied the question recommendation function to Deer to provide a convenient chatbot experience to users, and set it so that questions based on personal preferences are suggested first by Deer. In fact, in a preliminary test conducted last month, it was found that 90% of users concretized their gift ideas through suggested questions.
Kim Dong-hwan, CEO of Backpacker, said, “Last year, 26% of all Ideas orders were for gifting handicrafts to family, friends, and lovers,” and added, “We will continue to advance AI functions to provide differentiated gift experiences to customers and support stable sales expansion for artists.”
Meanwhile, Ideas is a handmade platform where artists who design and create their own works are active, unlike general distribution platforms. It sells works in various categories, from accessories to clothing, fashion accessories, interior decoration items, and handmade food, contributing to the revitalization of the handicraft industry.
