Plitto , an artificial intelligence (AI) language data company, announced on the 16th that it has provided AI-based menu translation services to 2,015 restaurants in Busan in cooperation with the Busan Metropolitan City.
This service was carried out through 'Busan Olleng', a foreign language menu production platform for restaurants. When a restaurant owner uploads a menu image to the platform, the AI translation engine and OCR (optical character recognition) technology are used to translate the menu information into seven languages while maintaining the original design. The translation languages are English, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Russian, and Arabic. After the final review process, the completed menu is provided.
In addition, it provides convenience to both tourists and restaurant owners by allowing them to check translated menus through the unique QR code of each restaurant without installing a separate application. Reflecting the characteristics of the restaurant industry where menus and prices change frequently, restaurant owners can easily modify or add menu information on the My Page within the platform. This reduces recurring costs and time burdens and allows them to use the service in the long term.
Pluto participated in the Busan Metropolitan City's 'Busan-style Restaurant Digital Foreign Language Menu Support Project' and contributed to creating an environment where foreign tourists can experience Busan's food culture on an equal basis with domestic tourists. In particular, it provided menu translations that reflected the characteristics of Busan's seafood dishes and unique local cuisine, allowing anyone to understand the charm of Busan food without language barriers.
“Through collaboration with the city of Busan, we have developed a service that allows foreign tourists to easily experience Busan’s food culture,” said Lee Jeong-su, CEO of Pluto. “Based on AI translation technology and global food culture data, we will strive to provide more advanced services to major tourist destinations at home and abroad.”
