Krafton makes strategic investment in ADK Group

Krafton Inc. (CEO Chang-han Kim) has made a strategic investment in ADK Group (CEO Toshiya Oyama), thereby initiating a full-fledged global partnership. Through this partnership, the two companies plan to respond to the growth of the global animation industry and jointly pursue the expansion of their respective core business areas.

On the 24th of this month, Krafton decided through its board of directors to acquire BCJ-31 Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Bain Capital Japan (CEO: Yuji Sugimoto). The acquisition price is 75 billion yen (approximately 710.3 billion won). BCJ-31 is the parent company of ADK Holdings, which owns major subsidiaries under the ADK Group, and through this transaction, ADK Group (hereinafter referred to as ADK) will become a consolidated affiliate of Krafton.

This acquisition is part of a mid- to long-term strategy to expand the possibilities of collaboration between animation and games and to strengthen the content and media business foundation in Japan, as an extension of this business direction. Krafton plans to gradually promote practical collaboration plans based on each company’s unique capabilities and their respective industrial bases through its partnership with ADK.

In particular, by combining ADK’s animation planning and production capabilities with Krafton’s global game development and service experience, the two companies plan to jointly create new added value that has never been attempted before while maintaining their respective identities. In addition, by linking Krafton’s game business capabilities with ADK’s domestic advertising and media infrastructure that has been accumulated for approximately 70 years, they plan to review long-term expansion opportunities throughout the Japanese content industry.

Kim Chang-han, CEO of Krafton, said, “ADK is a partner with high expertise and execution capabilities ranging from animation planning and production to advertising, marketing, and media operation, based on a deep understanding of the Japanese content industry as a whole.” He added, “Through collaboration with ADK, Krafton will continue to discover various points of contact between games and animation, and organically combine the strengths of both companies to create new opportunities for the global content business together.”
