Kibo, '30th Environment Day' Busan Green Environment Award Green Enterprise Category Grand Prize Winner

The Korea Technology Finance Corporation (hereinafter referred to as the “KIBO”) announced that it won the grand prize in the green company category of the Busan Green Environment Award at the “30th Environment Day” ceremony held at Busan City Hall on Thursday, the 5th.

The Busan Green Environment Award is an award given annually by Busan City since 2000 to citizens, organizations, and companies that have contributed to environmental conservation and environmental development in Busan, including responding to climate change, achieving carbon neutrality, and creating a resource recycling society.

Kibo received this environmental award in recognition of its achievements in supporting carbon neutrality of small and medium-sized enterprises based on its own carbon valuation model and K-Taxonomy Conformity Assessment System (KTAS), as well as its contribution to revitalizing green finance through a project to fully support financial costs for climate tech companies in the Busan area.

In particular, the 'Full Support for Financial Costs of Carbon Reduction Technology Companies' project, promoted in cooperation with Busan City and BNK Financial Group, received attention for contributing to reducing the burden of technology commercialization for companies and strengthening the climate tech industry base in the Busan region.

Meanwhile, Kibo, as a 'specialized institution for financial support for green SMEs and ventures' designated by the government, has developed its own 'carbon value assessment model' that converts a company's greenhouse gas reduction amount into monetary value, and has been supporting carbon value assessment guarantees using this since May 2022. As of now, the cumulative new supply has exceeded KRW 1.8 trillion, and through this, it is supporting the green growth and carbon neutral transition of SMEs.

Lee Jae-pil, CEO of Kibo, said, “Headquartered in Busan, Kibo has been actively utilizing its regional network to expand green finance support projects for low-carbon innovation and has played a leading role in the carbon-neutral transition of local SMEs.” He added, “Going forward, Kibo will establish customized support programs to enhance the carbon-neutral response capabilities of SMEs and spur the green growth of climate tech companies and the transition to a low-carbon industrial structure.”
