On May 27, Seoul Fintech Lab co-hosted the ‘Fintech Hong Kong Entry Seminar’ with InvestHK. This event was designed to introduce local investment attraction and incubation programs and provide networking opportunities for domestic fintech startups considering entering the Hong Kong market.
The seminar was held at the 8th floor training center of Seoul Fintech Lab, and major startup support organizations in Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Investment Corporation Korea Representative Office, Cyberport, and the Hong Kong Society for Science and Technology (HKSTP), attended and introduced each organization's startup support policies and programs.
The presentation began with ‘Overview of Hong Kong’s Business Environment’ by Consultant Eun-Ah Cho (Hong Kong Investment Corporation Korea Representative Office), followed by ‘Opportunities and Support Strategies for the Fintech Industry’ by General Manager King Leung (Finance, Fintech and Sustainability, Hong Kong Investment Corporation), ‘Introduction to Fintech Startup Incubation’ by Senior Manager Cybella Chan (Cyberport), and ‘Guide to Utilizing Startup Programs’ by Senior Manager Isaac Tse (HKSTP).
Afterwards, a Q&A session was held for on-site participants, and individual meetings were held between companies interested in entering Hong Kong and each organization. The participating startups showed great interest in Hong Kong’s startup-friendly regulations, geographical advantages as a financial center in Asia, and various government-led support programs.
This seminar is part of the 'Global Expansion Series' being conducted by Seoul Fintech Lab. In April, the 'US Investment Expansion Strategy Seminar' was held on the topic of the US startup ecosystem and entry strategies, and an official from the US accelerator 'The Venture City' participated and shared things to keep in mind when entering the US market and investment attraction strategies.
Seoul Fintech Lab provides space for up to 3 years for fintech companies that have been in business for less than 7 years, and operates various programs such as legal advice, investment linkage, and overseas expansion support. In addition, it supports the growth of startups through open innovation with global companies, demo days, and professional mentoring.
An official from Seoul Fintech Lab said, “This seminar went beyond providing information and served as an opportunity for companies preparing to expand overseas to directly connect with local experts,” adding, “We will continue to provide practical support so that domestic fintech startups can secure competitiveness on the global stage.”
