Google Korea announced that it successfully held the 'AI Literacy School', a hands-on education program for high school students, in cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education on the 23rd.
This program was designed to help students living in the era of generative AI to find the right information and use AI technology safely and responsibly. In particular, it focused on experiencing Google's latest AI tools such as Google Search and Gemini and Google for Education's educational solutions firsthand, and learning practical ways to apply them to real life and learning.
The event was attended by around 40 high school students interested in AI and digital information utilization, and the program consisted of two sessions: ▲'Super Searcher' to strengthen information search capabilities and ▲'Gemini Academy for Students' focused on understanding and practicing AI.
The 'Super Searcher' session provided training to strengthen critical thinking skills, including how to effectively search for reliable information in the flood of information, how to utilize AI-based search functions, and how to identify misinformation and respond to fake news.
In the 'Gemini Academy for Students' session that followed, students practiced creative learning activities using Google's Gemini AI, focusing on the principles and use cases of generative AI, and also learned how to use AI safely and responsibly.
Additionally, participating students had time to gain various insights into the digital industry and future career paths through Q&A mentoring sessions and office tours where they could communicate directly with Google executives and employees.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education's superintendent of scholarships said, "This AI Literacy School program was a practical education that helped students not only use AI technology, but also understand it correctly and use it responsibly."
Kim Kyung-hoon, CEO of Google Korea, said, “AI literacy is a key competency for preparing for the future, and it is especially important to help young people positively utilize technology for learning and creative activities.” He added, “I hope that this program will be an opportunity for students to actively respond to future social changes and grow into leaders who will lead the AI era.”
Meanwhile, Google Korea plans to continue to operate educational programs to enhance young people’s understanding of AI and information utilization skills in cooperation with various partners. In particular, it plans to contribute to improving academic achievement through AI-based learning tools and fostering future talents equipped with digital literacy and critical thinking skills.
