The International Association for the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (IAAE, Chairman Myung-Joo Kim and Director Chang-Bae Jeon) announced that it successfully concluded the '2025 ASC (AI Safety Compass)' conference held at the Google Startup Campus in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 27th.
This conference, held for the second time this year, was themed ‘Securing Corporate Competitiveness in a Changing AI Environment’ and served as a venue to share practical response strategies in industrial settings ahead of the spread of generative AI and the ‘Basic AI Act’ scheduled to be implemented in January next year.
This event was attended by speakers from various companies including LGU+, Wanted Lab, Select Star, and AI3, as well as public institutions such as the Ministry of Science and ICT, KISTI, and AI Safety Research Institute. Around 130 people from various industries including finance, education, and law who are interested in utilizing AI attended the event, showing great interest.
The first speaker, Gong Jin-ho, director of the AI-based policy division of the Ministry of Science and ICT, said that Korea is at an important turning point for entering the global top 3 as the global AI hegemony competition enters a new phase. Director Gong explained that Korea will fully establish a Korean-style AI ecosystem by expanding AI computing infrastructure, fostering talent, and strengthening R&D.
Next, KISTI (Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information) Center Director Lee Kyung-ha presented a new research paradigm in which AI automates the entire scientific process through the development of super-large language models. AI Safety Research Institute Director Kim Myeong-ju emphasized that global leading companies are also establishing risk management systems before commercializing technology, and that “AI safety” can be the key to securing the country’s sustainable competitiveness.
In the corporate session, practical experiences from the industrial field were shared. LGU+ AI Tech Lab Director Han Young-seop introduced the 'Assured Intelligence' technology strategy to block voice phishing and other abuse cases and increase user trust, and Wanted Lab's AX Business Director Joo Hyung-min presented the transition capability (AX) and internalization strategy in the AI introduction process centered on the LaaS (LLM as a Service) platform. Select Star Vice President Hwang Min-young drew attention by sharing measures to secure accuracy and stability when introducing AI through the Datumo platform, and AI3 CEO Pyo Cheol-min shared the personal information protection and internal control strategy of the enterprise GPT Service Works AI.
IAAE Chairman Jeon Chang-bae said, “As generative AI is rapidly changing our daily lives and industries, it is time for businesses and society to set the direction of ethics and legal systems together,” adding, “I hope that this ASC will reflect the voices of the industrial field and contribute to the design of specific policies after the enforcement of the Basic AI Act.”
“Now that AI technology is heading toward AGI, ethics and responsibility must go hand in hand with technology,” said Taejun Ryu, CEO of Team Cookie, which co-hosted the conference. “We will continue various follow-up programs with IAAE to create a safe and sustainable AI ecosystem.”
