The Jeju Center for Creative Economy and Innovation (hereafter Jeju Center) announced on the 27th that it will select 10 (potential) startups in the marine and fisheries sectors in Jeju together with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province (hereafter Jeju Province) and begin full-scale support for fostering related startups.
This project is part of the '2025 Marine and Fisheries Acceleration Program' hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Jeju Center was designated as the local specialized field organization for the project in March. The selected companies will receive up to 15 million won in commercialization funds, expert mentoring, customized consulting, sales channel development, and promotional support.
In addition, only excellent companies will be provided with direct investment, follow-up investment, and opportunities for global expansion. Through this, the Jeju Center plans to promote the growth of startups in the marine and fisheries sector, and promote sustainable development of Jeju local industries and expansion into national and overseas markets.
The Jeju Center has been serving as the dedicated organization for the Jeju region marine and fisheries acceleration program for two consecutive years since last year. In 2024, 10 companies were selected and a similar support program was operated, and VPP Lab, which received the support, succeeded in attracting a total of 3.3 billion won in follow-up investment, including 300 million won in direct investment by the Jeju Center.
Lee Byeong-seon, director of the Jeju Center, said, “This year, we will continue to work with Jeju Island to enhance the competitiveness of the local marine and fisheries industry and provide practical support so that startups can advance into domestic and international markets through innovative technologies and ideas.”
