Glorang has signed a business agreement (MOU) with AI startup VMONSTER to jointly develop a real-time AI tutor. Through this agreement, the two companies plan to combine their respective technological capabilities to develop an AI tutor service customized to each student’s tendencies and goals.
◆ The largest online real-time education platform, 'Kug'
Glorang operates 'Gguge', an online live class platform for children ages 5 to 19, with a total of 150,000 students and 7,000 teachers currently active. The Gguge platform has the largest amount of content in Korea that can help children develop their non-cognitive abilities in the AI era, such as science and reading.
Above all, all classes are conducted in real time and interactively, and a customized education system has been developed that analyzes the learner's history, emotions, and talent index through AI technology and matches the optimal curriculum. With this approach, Glorant closely understands the children's learning motivation and tendencies and provides classes optimized for each individual's level and interest, and the actual student repurchase rate is also maintained high.
Glorant has its own diagnostic education algorithm that combines accumulated psychological, aptitude, interest, and personality diagnostic data with AI algorithms, giving it the strength to objectively discover students' hidden talents and potential.
◆ Startup Vmonster, a gathering of KAIST AI experts
Vmonster is a deep-tech startup founded in 2023 by CEO Dongchan Min, who holds a PhD in AI from KAIST. It is a technology-focused team comprised of all core members who hold master's and doctoral degrees in AI from KAIST.
Beyond simple chatbots, Vmonster is developing a conversational system with an 'AI avatar (or AI human)' that makes eye contact and speaks in real time like a person. This system consists of not only a generation technology that generates images and voices using only text input, but also an integrated platform that enables natural communication through real-time voice and video interfaces based on this. In other words, users can experience immersive interactions with the AI avatar on the screen as if they were talking to a real person.
The strengths of Vmonster's AI avatars include providing high-quality images and audio, while also ensuring real-time responsiveness and cost efficiency through its own lightweight technology. Not only does it have an advantage in expressiveness and quality over competitors, but it is also easy to introduce, as you can easily create a high-quality AI avatar with just one photo without complex shooting.
Based on this technological prowess, Vmonster was recognized for its technological prowess by winning the grand prize in the AI Human category of the 4th Industrial Revolution Awards (4IR Awards), and is currently accelerating commercialization by developing an AI avatar service for English education in collaboration with educational companies such as YBM.
◆ Strategic collaboration for developing customized AI tutors
The goal of this collaboration is to provide each student with a personalized AI tutor in real time, like a living personal teacher, by combining Glorant Coog’s diagnostic education algorithm with Vmonster’s AI avatar technology. Glorant’s algorithm based on its vast talent diagnostic data has precisely analyzed students’ tendencies, interests, and learning patterns, and Vmonster’s AI avatar technology can implement AI tutors with different personalities as video avatars based on these analysis results.
For example, an active and curious student will have an energetic and lively tutor avatar, while a calm student will have a stable tutor avatar, and they will provide real-time coaching that suits their respective styles. The two companies expect that these personalized AI tutors will increase students’ immersion and participation and improve learning efficiency. In particular, since the AI tutor is on standby 24 hours a day and can provide learning advice to students whenever needed, continuous learning support will be possible without time and space constraints.
◆ AI tutor responsible from before class to after class
The AI tutor being jointly developed will be in charge of managing the entire process from the class preparation stage to in-class and post-class. Before class, the AI tutor diagnoses the student's level and goals to suggest the optimal customized learning plan, and provides prior knowledge or materials required for the class in advance. During the class, it monitors the student's facial expressions, reactions, and understanding as a real-time learning partner, and provides hints or additional explanations if necessary, and responds to questions in an interactive manner to help with two-way learning.
After class, review and additional learning of the content learned that day are managed, with homework and quizzes automatically graded and given feedback, and AI tutors coaching on areas that require individual supplementation before the next class. Through this process, actual human teachers can focus only on progressing the class content, and the remaining additional tasks such as preparation, review, and motivation are automated by AI tutors, thereby maximizing the educational effect. In the field of education, it is expected that AI tutors will alleviate the limitations of individual guidance that arise when one teacher is in charge of multiple learners. In addition, since teachers will be able to focus on core guidance with less administrative work or repetitive Q&A burden, teaching efficiency is also expected to improve.
◆ 24-hour AI conversation friend for students, private education cost reduction for parents
Through the AI tutor being developed this time, students will get a 1:1 study partner with whom they can talk face-to-face anytime, anywhere. For example, if they have a problem that they don’t know even late at night or on the weekend, they can get immediate help by talking to the AI tutor via video and consult about their study direction. The AI tutor will recommend a study schedule that takes into account the student’s individual tendencies and goals, and will continuously provide motivation to achieve their goals.
Through this, students are expected to be able to develop proactive study habits, and vague fears or boredom felt during the learning process will also be reduced. Meanwhile, parents have the advantage of being able to provide customized tutoring to their children while significantly reducing the financial burden. This is because they can reduce the considerable private education expenses previously spent on professional tutoring or academies, and transparently check and manage their children's learning status through AI tutors. While it is realistically difficult to assign a real tutor every day, AI tutors are a reliable assistant who stands by 24 hours a day and helps with learning whenever needed.
◆ Support for in-depth learning with AI tutors that replicate the style of famous instructors
In the future, Glorant and Vmonster plan to train AI with the IP (Intellectual Property) data of key popular instructors active on the Kook platform with the instructors’ consent. Through this, they plan to create AI tutors that have inherited the unique teaching methods and know-how of famous instructors, and enable these AI tutors to help students review or study in depth.
For example, if AI learns the humorous explanation style and storytelling techniques of a science subject instructor who was actually popular and implements an AI science tutor with the same style, students will enjoy it.
Even while reviewing, you can feel immersed as if you were learning directly from the famous instructor. If AI tutors, who are like the clones of star instructors, go beyond basic learning content and take charge of in-depth learning or Q&A, it will increase students’ understanding, while actual instructors can focus on developing new content or teaching more students.
