MathWorks and Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information Sign Agreement to Build High-Performance Computing Infrastructure

MathWorks, a leading developer of technical computing software, announced today that it has signed an agreement with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI) to provide MATLAB and MATLAB Parallel Server hosting services.

This agreement signing ceremony was held on the 22nd at the KISTI Daejeon headquarters, and key officials from both organizations, including MathWorks’ Executive Director Kim Gwang-sik and Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information’s Director Park Chan-yeol, attended the ceremony and promised cooperation to advance the HPC (High-Performance Computing) service of the National Supercomputing Center of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information.

MATLAB users can now use the high-performance computing resources of the National Supercomputing Center to perform large-scale data processing, complex calculations, and artificial intelligence model training. Users can submit jobs remotely and access the supercomputer’s parallel computing capabilities without complex technical setup through the virtual environment provided on the computer.

This agreement will allow not only educational and research institutions but also corporate users to utilize MATLAB and MATLAB Parallel Server licenses held by individuals or institutions. MathWorks will also support researchers in utilizing high-performance computing and provide technical training through seminars and workshops.

“This agreement is an important step toward realizing MathWorks’ mission of ‘accelerating the advancement of science and engineering,’” said Kim Kwang-sik, Executive Director of MathWorks. “MATLAB will enable researchers in academia and industry who need to process large amounts of data and train AI models to utilize supercomputing resources more efficiently.”

Park Chan-yeol, head of the National Supercomputing Center, said, “Through this collaboration with MathWorks, we expect to improve the research productivity of domestic researchers by providing a more diverse research environment based on high-performance computing resources, which are core research infrastructures.” He added, “Going forward, KISTI will continue to provide world-class computing infrastructure and strengthen support for researchers for the advancement of domestic science and technology.”

Meanwhile, MathWorks will host an online workshop on May 29th for MATLAB users at the National Supercomputing Center under the theme of “MATLAB on KISTI Supercomputer: Practical Workshop on Parallel Processing and AI.” In this workshop, Dr. Woo-Jun Woo of the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information will introduce how to use MATLAB services on the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information’s supercomputer, and MathWorks engineer Jun-Sang Eom will share how to use the MATLAB parallel server. Through this, participants are expected to be able to actively utilize the resources of the National Supercomputing Center and learn how to practically utilize MATLAB in a high-performance computing environment. Anyone interested in the topic can participate in the workshop, and registration is available on the MathWorks homepage .
