Naver Cloud Begins Expansion of Southeast Asia Sovereign AI Market

Naver Cloud (CEO Kim Yu-won) announced that it signed a business agreement with Thai AI and cloud platform company 'SIAM.AI Cloud (hereinafter referred to as SIAM.AI Cloud)' for joint development of Thai-based LLM and AI agents. SIAM.AI is a leading company leading Thailand's AI transition, and the company plans to fully expand Sovereign AI into the Southeast Asian market based on this cooperation.

First, based on their respective LLM construction and operation experience and their extensive Thai language data and GPU infrastructure, the two companies plan to build a Thai language-specific LLM that can be applied to actual services by the end of this year and, based on this, introduce an AI agent specialized in tourism that is in high demand in Thailand.

Afterwards, the plan is to secure a model lineup of various sizes and expand the business to various industries that require AI, such as healthcare, public services, and academia, based on this. Naver Cloud plans to actively share its technology and know-how in this process to support Thailand in developing and operating AI models and applications independently.

This agreement was made at the NVIDIA Cloud Partner Summit, an NVIDIA Cloud Partner event held in Taiwan, with Naver Cloud and Siam AI attending as the only partners from Korea and Thailand, respectively. Naver Cloud has been working closely with NVIDIA since last year to flesh out an actual business model based on a shared understanding of building sovereign AI, and this collaboration with Siam AI is the result of that, the company said.

Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin and Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon also attended the signing ceremony and discussed future plans to expand Sovereign AI business in Southeast Asia and enter the global market.

Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won emphasized, “This collaboration goes beyond simply establishing an LLM. Its core goal is to support Thailand to acquire the technological capabilities and control to develop and operate AI models within the country. This will be able to provide a new direction for countries trying to build their own AI ecosystems.” He added, “Going forward, we plan to accelerate our entry into the Southeast Asian market by cooperating with partners like Siam AI that can build sovereign AI locally, such as LLMs, infrastructure, and applications.”

CEO Kim also added, “Naver Cloud has capabilities across the entire AI value chain, including AI services, data, AI backbone, supercomputing infrastructure, cloud, and data centers, so it can provide customized solutions to countries and companies that require sovereign AI.”

Meanwhile, Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin, Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon, and Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won, who visited Taiwan, discussed the possibility of expanding into Southeast Asia and the global market through meetings with various partners, including NVIDIA and Taiwan's largest mobile carrier, Chunghwa Telecom.
