Global venture capital firm KOL Capital announced that it has confirmed a strategic investment of a total of USD 500,000 in the Web3 sports board game project 'SoccerGO'.
This investment is evaluated as a strategic partnership that goes beyond simple funding and includes all-round collaboration such as marketing support utilizing a global influencer network, community activation, and brand partnership promotion.
SoccerGO is a new type of sports game that utilizes blockchain technology. It is centered around a system where you roll the dice to move around the board and occupy and manage stadiums, clubs, and commercial facilities. Users form NFT teams within the game, operate leagues, and take on the role of a ‘digital club owner’ beyond being a simple player. The game assets obtained in this process are recorded as NFTs, providing both Web3-based asset ownership and economic participation opportunities.
In particular, SoccerGO is the first project of the Web3 Game Incubation Program co-hosted by Punkbizm and the Korea Mobile Game Association (KMGA), and is being developed based on Solana, one of the blockchain mainnets. Through this, it can provide a gaming environment with high transaction processing speed and low fee structure, and secures the technological foundation for global user expansion.
At the center of this investment is Evan Luthra, a blockchain technology expert and global influencer in the Web3 ecosystem. As a general partner at KOL Capital, he has invested in and successfully grew many early-stage Web3 projects. As a Forbes 30 Under 30 entrepreneur and global blockchain speaker, he has expressed his intention to directly lead the global expansion strategy of the SoccerGO project, rather than simply being a financial investor.
Ivan Lutra, CEO of KOL Capital, said, “SoccerGO is a new model for Web3 sports games where players can design leagues, run clubs, and drive the economy of digital assets, rather than simply enjoying the game.” He added, “This project is impressive in that it goes beyond the structure of traditional games to allow sports fans and users to have more real ownership and influence through blockchain technology. I will take the lead in making this project the global standard for Web3 sports games.”
KOL Capital aims to make a substantial contribution to SoccerGO’s global launch and brand building through this investment. To this end, it will jointly conduct marketing campaigns using its global influencer group and Web3 community assets, and support initial user acquisition in major markets. In addition, it plans to jointly pursue DAO-based community building, NFT expansion strategies, and global sports IP partnerships.
“The collaboration with KOL Capital will be a decisive stepping stone for SoccerGO to establish a leading position in the global Web3 market,” said Hyunki Hwang, CEO of Punkbiz. “With this investment, we will have stronger marketing channels and technological infrastructure, and we will make it a representative example that popularizes Web3 games and sets new standards for the e-sports industry.”
Korea Mobile Game Association Chairman Hwang Seong-ik said, “The fact that a domestically planned Web3 game project has attracted strategic investment from a global investment firm is a symbolic case that shows the possibility that the Korean game industry can play a leading role in the Web3 ecosystem.” He added, “This investment attraction is not just the result of a single project, but will be an important turning point in the systematic growth of the domestic Web3 game industry.”
Meanwhile, SoccerGO is preparing for a global exchange listing and large-scale NFT disclosure based on this investment, and will also launch marketing activities to secure full-scale global users. Based on the technical synergy with the Punkbiz ecosystem, the industry is paying close attention to whether it can present a new standard for Web3-based sports games built on the Solana mainnet.
