– Identifying the difficulties of digital merchants and providing voices for policy improvement

The Platform SME Research Center of Kookmin University and the Digital Merchant Association have published the 『Digital Merchant Policy Suggestion Collection』 (hereinafter referred to as the Policy Suggestion Collection). This policy suggestion collection was prepared to strengthen the capabilities of digital merchants leading the digital transformation era, and contains 10 effective policy suggestions.

The Digital Merchant Association is a digital merchant association launched on April 21st, and is comprised of 100 diverse members of digital merchants with various growth paths, from individual entrepreneurs to local brands and global brands. This policy proposal collection is the first achievement to support the actual growth of digital merchants since the association was launched.

The Platform SME Research Center and the Digital Merchant Association will share this policy proposal collection with relevant organizations, support the growth of digital merchants, and continue to work to create a friendly ecosystem.

In order to publish a policy recommendation book, the Kookmin University Platform SME Research Center and the Digital Merchant Association conducted a <Survey to Identify Difficulties of Digital Merchants and Improve Policies> targeting members of the Digital Merchant Association, and comprehensively reflected the vivid voices of digital merchants, desk research, and expert advice.

The publication of this policy proposal collection is significant in that it proposes more realistic and effective policies based on the experiences and difficulties of merchants who actually run businesses in the digital ecosystem.

The policy proposal collection proposed 10 policies for the growth of digital merchants, focusing on the four major agendas: ▲financial support ▲education and consulting ▲DX/AX support ▲sales channel support.

The 10 major policies include ▲establishment of specialized operating funds for digital commerce (marketing, advertising cost support, scale-up support), ▲establishment and expansion of a policy funding program exclusively for digital merchants, ▲encouragement of use of pre-deposit services to secure liquidity, ▲provision of specialized brand consulting for individual businesses, ▲support for tax and labor education, ▲support for education on writing business plans, ▲practical AI education focusing on marketing and data analysis, ▲support for AX solution use vouchers, ▲support for offline pop-up stores, and ▲support for online and offline exports.

Min Sang-dae, the new chairman of the Digital Merchants Association (ES Food Raw Materials), said, “I hope that the publication of this policy suggestion collection containing the voices of digital merchants will be an opportunity to contribute to the creation of a healthy digital ecosystem by practically resolving various difficulties and necessary support directions experienced in the process of running a business based on the experiences of merchants running digital businesses.” He also said, “I ask for your interest and anticipation for the association’s future activities.”

Kim Do-hyun, director of the Platform SME Research Center, said, “Digital merchants are not simply online sellers, but actual business operators who comprehensively handle technology, content, and brands,” and emphasized, “Since a practical education system suitable for the era of generative AI is directly related to the survival and growth of businesses, the attention of relevant organizations is necessary.”
