Data Tech company Big Value announced on the 12th that its CEO received the Minister of Science and ICT Award at the '58th Science Day Minister's Award Ceremony' held at The Riverside Hotel in Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 9th.
Representative Gureum is currently serving as the co-CEO of Big Value and the head of the data service division, and was honored with the award in recognition of his contribution to solving various social problems by utilizing artificial intelligence (AI)-based data analysis technology. This award is part of the '2025 Government Award for Scientific and Technological Advancement' and is given to individuals who have contributed to the advancement of science and technology and the enhancement of national competitiveness.
Representative Koo was selected as the winner for his joint development of an AI model with the government to identify high-risk areas and farms for avian influenza (AI), and for his practical application of data technology in the public sector, such as preventing rental fraud and simplifying secured loan procedures at financial institutions.
Since its establishment in 2015, Big Value has been at the forefront of domestic data-based technology innovation. It was the first company in Korea to develop an AI-based real estate price prediction system and was selected for the Financial Services Commission’s innovative financial service regulatory sandbox. It is also applying data tech to various industrial fields, such as supporting franchise companies’ sales prediction and store strategy establishment through AI-based commercial district analysis solutions.
Mr. Koo is a data mining expert, and is also a specialist member of the Protection and Utilization Division of the National Data Policy Committee and an adjunct professor in the Department of Urban Engineering at Hanyang University. He received the Minister’s Award from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in 2019 in recognition of his contributions to consulting on private sector spatial data, and this award from the Minister of Science and ICT is his second government award.
CEO Koo said, “The data industry is also changing rapidly to fit the AI era, and it is important to create social value based on technology.” He added, “Big Value will lead a virtuous cycle in the data ecosystem based on AI-friendly infrastructure and grow into a company that drives innovation across the industry.”
