The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced that it held the ‘Korea-Japan Bio Cooperation Networking’ event at the Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul on the 8th.
This event was held as a follow-up to the 'Korea-Japan Bio Ecosystem Roundtable' held in Tokyo on February 20, and was organized to strengthen business partnerships and expand cooperation opportunities between innovative Korean bio venture companies and global Japanese pharmaceutical companies.
This event, co-hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Shonan I-PARK of Japan and organized by the Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT), was attended by approximately 50 people from the bio industry of both countries, including nine Korean bio venture companies with innovative technologies and eight Japanese pharmaceutical companies.
This event consisted of an investor relations (IR) session for Korean bio venture companies and a networking session between businesspeople from both countries. At the investor relations session, innovative new drug development venture companies, such as protein new drug design AI and immune anticancer drugs, introduced their technologies and explored possibilities for collaboration with Japanese pharmaceutical companies.
Attendees expressed their hope that division of labor and collaboration between Korean and Japanese bio companies would greatly contribute to reducing trial and error in new drug development and accelerating innovation, and that active exchanges and information sharing would continue in the future.
Lim Jeong-wook, Director of Startup and Venture Innovation, emphasized, “The biohealth industry is a key growth engine in the 21st century. If Korea and Japan pursue mutually complementary cooperation by utilizing their respective strengths, they will be able to secure greater competitiveness in the global market.” He added, “I hope that Korea’s innovative biotechnology and Japan’s abundant industrial experience will come together to create synergy.”
Meanwhile, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups has established and is operating a ‘Bio-dedicated Team’ within the organization to foster bio-venture companies, and plans to continuously promote various programs for exchange and cooperation between Korean and Japanese bio-companies, starting with this event.
