The Seoul Women's Ability Development Center announced that it signed a three-party business agreement (MOU) with the Seoul Women's Family Foundation and Airbnb and will begin operating a 'shared accommodation host training course' to support the reemployment of women who have taken a career break.
This training course is mainly targeted at women in their 30s and 40s living in Seoul, and aims to encourage flexible employment opportunities through startup opportunities based on shared accommodation platforms and to lay the foundation for re-employment after a career break.
According to recent data from the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute, the number of foreign tourists in 2024 will increase by 25% compared to the previous year. In addition, the shared accommodation industry is showing growth due to the spread of K-content, the independent travel trend, and the increase in demand for short-term travel, and its potential as a business field targeting women is particularly highlighted.
The same course that the Seoul Women and Family Foundation piloted last year received a lot of attention, with 130 people applying despite the limited number of participants, and 19.4% of the trainees actually succeeded in starting a business. This year, the Seoul Women’s Ability Development Center will be in charge of the overall operation of the course, and 12 women’s human resources development organizations in Seoul will provide integrated support, from recruiting trainees to post-management.
The training will be held online (via Zoom) every Wednesday afternoon from May 28 to July 2. The practical training curriculum will include ▲Understanding shared accommodation startups and related regulations, ▲Accommodation concept design, ▲Tax and reporting guides, ▲Platform registration practice, ▲Marketing strategies, etc., and the last session will feature a 'Homecoming Day' including 1:1 mentoring with an Airbnb ambassador.
Applications for the training can be made through the Seoul Women's Up website or each women's human resources development organization until May 20. Those who complete the training will also be provided with follow-up support such as the Airbnb incubation program (12 weeks), practical startup mentoring, and employment counseling in connection with women's human resources development organizations.
Seoul Women’s Ability Development Center Team Leader Kang Ki-soon said, “This training course is a digital-based entrepreneurship education program that meets the needs of women, and will serve as a new job model that contributes to career recovery and expanded economic activity participation through public-private cooperation.”
