Dance content-tech startup Dancestruct announced that it has been selected as the lead research and development institution for the 'Development of an Open Multimodal Information-Linked Choreography Creation and Collaboration AI Platform', a national R&D project supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
This project is worth a total of KRW 4.869 billion (KRW 3.832 billion in government subsidies) and aims to strengthen the global competitiveness of the domestic choreography industry through digital transformation of the entire process from choreography creation to distribution and consumption.
To carry out the task, Dance Truck has formed the best industry-academia-research consortium with leading domestic companies and research institutes that have both the practicality and cutting-edge technology of the 3D industry. KAIST Graduate School of Culture Technology LAVA Lab (Lifelike Avatar & Agent Laboratory), Department of Industrial Design AEL Lab (AI Experience Lab), Kai Co., Ltd., Moobin Co., Ltd., and Studio Real Live Co., Ltd. are participating as joint research and development companies.
Through the project, ▲development of 3D motion data acquisition technology for accurate recording of dance ▲improvement of the analog choreography creation process through choreography generation AI and choreography collaborative authoring tools ▲development of a choreography copyright fee settlement system ▲establishment of a dance video production platform, etc.
Dancestruct operates a 3D choreography data distribution solution, 'XSTAGE', and has been conducting a dance media business that produces content with Korea's top dance artists, including K-POP choreographer Gabi, 1Million's Lia Kim, and Stagemanfighter Choi Ho-jong. In addition, it successfully hosted and organized Korea's first popular culture dance awards ceremony, 'Choreo Awards' last year, contributing to the development of the choreography industry.
Dancestruct's X-Stage platform has proven its global business potential with over 80% of its sales generated overseas since its launch, and it is also providing solutions to domestic metaverse platforms and virtual creator companies, solidifying its position in the 3D virtual reality market. In recognition of its technological prowess and global business potential, it successfully attracted investment from KAIST alumni investment partners KOCP and SparkLabs in 2023.
Dancestruct’s head of research, CEO Hye-rin Yoon, said, “K-pop choreography has established itself as an important cultural asset in the global market, but it is true that the technological infrastructure has been lacking,” and expressed her ambition, saying, “Through this research and development, we will create a digital ecosystem where creators can work stably from choreography creation to rights protection.”
