AI Korea (AI KOREA) is starting full-scale research and development on next-generation new technologies such as robots, artificial intelligence (AI), and deep learning. AI Korea announced on the 7th that it has opened a new specialized research institute at the Seoul National University Graduate School of Convergence Science and Technology (hereafter, Seoul National University Convergence Technology Institute).
AI Korea plans to further accelerate technological innovation and new product development by dividing its research and development (R&D) system. The new research institute will be dedicated to convergence research and development of cutting-edge technologies such as robots, AI, and plasma, while the headquarters R&D center will focus on developing green energy technologies such as ammonia crackers (decomposition equipment).
Seoul National University's Convergence Technology Institute is a research hub that has specialized research institutes in various fields such as nano, robots, AI, data, information technology, and bio. Many corporate research institutes and researchers are also located here, focusing on developing high value-added technologies and innovative products.
AI Korea plans to actively utilize the new research center, especially for technological advancement in the robot business sector. The strategy is to further enhance product performance through the development of robot and AI convergence technology, and to increase competitiveness in the global market based on this.
The R&D center of SNUI Lab, a third-generation vision artificial intelligence (AI) leading company that recently signed a business agreement (MOU), is also located in Seoul National University’s Convergence Technology Institute, which is expected to enable closer collaboration. The two companies are aiming to develop an AI-based next-generation autonomous robot (ARM) platform.
An AI Korea official said, “The collaboration with Seoul National University’s Convergence Technology Institute will be an important opportunity to strengthen AI Korea’s technological competitiveness,” adding, “The fact that we can receive academic and technical support through collaboration with master’s and doctoral researchers affiliated with Seoul National University is a great advantage.”
He continued, “Based on the excellent research infrastructure and talent pool of the Institute of Technology, we will continue to present innovative technologies that can lead the global market in various fields such as robots and AI,” and emphasized, “We plan to maximize the momentum of performance growth through new product development and strengthening R&D capabilities.”
