The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced on April 30 that it will be awarding exemplary small business owners and those who have contributed to the development of small business owners and to improving their social and economic status.
In order to boost the self-esteem of small business owners and raise social awareness, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups has been awarding related awards at the 'Korea Small Business Convention' held annually on November 5 to commemorate Small Business Day since 2006.
The award categories consist of three categories: ▲Exemplary Small Business Owners ▲People with Nurturing Merits ▲Outstanding Support Organizations. We plan to actively discover small business owners who serve as role models for other companies through outstanding achievements, as well as individuals and organizations who have contributed to the nurturing and development of small business owners, resolution of difficulties, and improvement of regulations.
In particular, this year, some of the evaluation criteria for selecting award recipients have been reorganized to fit reality. Items with similar evaluation contents have been standardized, and the definitions of some abstract and comprehensive indicators have been specified. In addition, in response to the opinion that it is realistically difficult for small business owners to meet all of the current exemplary small business owner evaluation criteria, some of the criteria have been improved so that applicants can select items that match their strengths and be evaluated.
The level and scale of the awards are approximately 140 in total, including industrial medals and decorations, presidential commendations, prime minister commendations, and minister of SMEs and Startups commendations. After finalizing the scale through consultations with relevant ministries, the awards will be finally presented at the '2025 Republic of Korea Small Business Convention' scheduled to be held in late October to early November.
To apply and submit, prepare the submission documents listed in the notice and submit them in person or by mail to the local SME Venture Business Administration, Small Business Market Promotion Agency regional center, or Small Business Federation by 6:00 PM on June 20.
