On the 25th, the Korea Coffee Association signed a business agreement (MOU) with the Technology Education and Development Authority of the Philippines (TESDA) and local language school JIC Language Inc. in Baguio, Philippines, for the training of coffee professionals.
This agreement aims to promote sustainable growth in the Asian coffee industry through cooperation in various fields such as human resource and coffee education exchange, coffee industry development and culture promotion, production area development, and tour program planning between the two countries.
The Korea Coffee Association is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and is actively expanding into the global market. Through this agreement, it plans to accelerate the advancement of the Global Advanced Coffee Program (GACP) into the Philippines. GACP aims to foster coffee professionals who meet global standards through specialized training courses for each job, such as barista, coffee grader, roasting director, and business consultant.
The Korea Coffee Association Overseas Business Headquarters (Director Ho-Sang Lee) has expanded into major Asian countries such as Indonesia, Vietnam, and Japan, and expects that this agreement will contribute to the development of the coffee culture and industrial ecosystem in the Philippines.
Baguio, the site of the agreement, is located at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level and is the summer capital and educational center of the Philippines. It is an area suitable for growing Arabica coffee, and there are many coffee farms located there, so there is a high possibility that it will grow into a representative coffee city of the Philippines in the future.
The Korea Coffee Association established the Philippines Regional Office on April 10 in line with this agreement and appointed Jang Se-hyeon, director of Terminal Espresso House, as Regional Office Manager. Jang Se-hyeon will be in charge of operating the GACP education program in the Philippines and expanding coffee industry cooperation between the two countries, and will lead the establishment of local infrastructure and the spread of the K-Coffee brand.
Choi Joo-ho, Chairman of the Korea Coffee Association, said, “The association’s main goal is to advance globally, and Korea’s coffee culture is already world-class.” He also emphasized, “Baguio, with its climate suitable for coffee cultivation and passion for coffee, is a city that perfectly matches the values of GACP,” and “This cooperation will be an important foundation for the sustainable growth of the coffee industry in both countries.”
