Bluepoint, 'Clima Salon' held

Bluepoint 'Climate Salon' held, gathering energy and climate experts

Deep tech accelerator Bluepoint announced on the 2nd that it held the ‘Clima Salon’, a community for sustainable transition in the energy and climate industries.

The Clima Salon is planned and operated by Bluepoint, HD Hyundai Electric, Korea Institute of Energy Research, and Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning. The first event held at the Google Startup Campus on this day under the theme of ‘Power Grid Innovation and Smart Grid’ was attended by approximately 70 experts and industry professionals.

In particular, various ideas for innovation in the energy sector were shared, focusing on expert presentations. Presentations included: △Power grid and smart grid market trends and major corporate strategies (Cho Yeon-ju, researcher at Mirae Asset Securities); △Distributed energy & smart grid new business (Ryu Jun-woo, CEO of Gridwiz); △Inverter-based power grid flexibility technology (Baek Jong-bok, Ph.D., Korea Institute of Energy Research).

Cho Yeon-ju, a researcher at Mirae Asset Securities, analyzed in a presentation that power grid modernization is emerging as a megatrend that will continue for at least five years, and that domestic power equipment companies are simultaneously expanding their exports and advancing their technologies. Cho said, “As technology to predict peak hours of power usage and monitor them in real time becomes more important, demand for AI-based prediction models is also rapidly increasing.”

Next, Dr. Baek Jong-bok of the Korea Institute of Energy Research emphasized that securing flexibility in the power grid has emerged as a key task due to the expansion of renewable energy and acceleration of electrification to achieve carbon neutrality, and that verification and commercialization of smart inverters and grid forming inverters are important technologies to solve this. Dr. Baek said, “Ultimately, the key to flexibility is how quickly you can respond to changes in the power grid and how much power you can handle.”

After the main presentations, there was active communication and networking among the attendees. The networking session was intended to encourage practical cooperation and collaboration through exchanges between field experts, as changes in the energy and climate sectors are progressing at an uncontrollable pace.

A Bluepoint official said, “Clima Salon is a new networking event organized by Bluepoint to create a venue for cooperation to solve the climate crisis based on the existing ‘Open Innovation Platform’,” adding, “We will promote connections and collaboration across industries through regular forums.”
