Krafton acquires 'Neptune'

Krafton Inc. (CEO Chang-han Kim) is acquiring adtech and gaming company Neptune Inc. (Respective CEOs Yul-bin Kang and Wook Jeong).

On the 29th, Krafton decided to acquire the entire 39.37% stake in Neptune held by Kakao Games through a regular board meeting resolution. Upon completion of this transaction, it will secure a total of 42.53% stake, including the existing 3.16% stake, and become the largest shareholder of Neptune.

In this investment, Krafton focused on Neptune's sustainable profit base and the management's strategic capabilities.

Neptune has laid the foundation for growth centered on adtech and game businesses, and has built a solid profit structure through this. In particular, in 2024, it recorded consolidated sales of KRW 121.6 billion and operating profit of KRW 9.6 billion, achieving the highest operating profit since its listing in 2016. This performance was the result of the management’s strategic judgment and execution ability, and Krafton also highly evaluated this.

Even after the acquisition, Neptune will maintain its current management system. Krafton plans to respect the autonomy and independence of the existing management team as Neptune continues to achieve consistent performance and growth.

In addition, Krafton plans to explore mid- to long-term business expansion possibilities based on this acquisition. It will review the application of new business models in global markets including India, and will also look into ways to apply Neptune’s technology and business experience to Krafton’s game services.

Meanwhile, Neptune is a company that has steadily grown based on its adtech-based platform business and game development and publishing capabilities. It currently holds a 0.9% stake in Krafton and has been promoting the expansion of its user base and the advancement of its profit structure. Recently, it has also been accelerating the discovery of new growth engines through content IP expansion and new investment portfolio diversification.
