This study is a project to improve the recognition accuracy of manual documents generated in counter reception and deposit work and to automate repetitive tasks. Romin demonstrated the possibility of digital transformation of counter work through advanced document AI technology.
During the project, Romin developed recognition models specialized for five types of documents, including parcel receipt forms and deposit manual documents, and verified their effectiveness by installing pilot systems at Dongjak Post Office in Seoul and Nambucheon Post Office in Gyeonggi Province. As a result, the document recognition rate exceeded the target by 95%, and 94% of the recognized data was immediately used in practice without separate review.
In particular, the recognized results were implemented in a way that they are linked to PostNet, the internal system of the Postal Service Headquarters, so that counter staff can use the results immediately without separate confirmation or file upload. This structure, which simplifies the existing multi-step review process, has contributed to improving practical convenience and document processing speed.
In addition, it was calculated that the monthly usage increased by approximately 22 times compared to the initial introduction through the simplification of the inspection process after the introduction of the system. Romin proposed a new format and reorganized the data structure to suit the window environment, thereby further improving the handwriting recognition performance and automation scope.
In addition, it was evaluated that it integrated and applied functions specialized for post office work, such as information extraction visualization, automatic address correction, and data validity verification, thereby reducing repetitive input work and improving the accuracy of document processing.
Romin Kang Ji-hong, CEO, said, “This project is a meaningful case where document AI technology has been practically applied in the public sector to create practical results,” and added, “We will actively support the expansion of this system to post offices nationwide in the future so that it can contribute to improving the quality of postal services.”
Meanwhile, Romin received a commendation from the Minister of Science and ICT in recognition of his contribution to the advancement of digital technology in the postal service.
