Ageland, Supergate Sign Agreement for AI VPU Chip Development

Ageland joins hands with Supergate to strengthen cooperation in the edge-oriented AI ecosystem.

ASIC design solution specialist Aegic Land (CEO Jongmin Lee) announced on the 29th that it has signed a turnkey contract with Supergate (CEO Seungpil Shim) for the development of a VPU (Vision Processing Unit). The contract amount is 10.5 billion won, and through collaboration, the two companies plan to strengthen their position in the edge AI market by accelerating the development of high-performance VPUs.

Through this agreement, the two companies will collaborate with the goal of commercializing Vision AI specialized chips. In particular, this collaboration is expected to be the first case of Aegic Land actually mass-producing AI VPU chips, and it is expected to be able to supply key components for AI CCTVs, industrial AI systems, etc.

The two companies plan to provide high-performance AI solutions through the integrated supply of optimized AI algorithms and hardware (H/W) for data processing and neural network processing units (NPUs). In addition, starting with this collaboration, they plan to gradually expand the scope of their collaboration to include development in conjunction with autonomous driving systems in the future.

VPU is a processor specialized in real-time image and video recognition and deep learning inference, and is characterized by its structural efficiency that can process simultaneous operations at high speed. Based on compatibility with various frameworks and software libraries, it is attracting attention as a key solution in various industrial fields such as AI CCTV, autonomous driving, industrial safety, smart city, security, medical, and AR/VR, and global market demand is also rapidly increasing.

Meanwhile, Supergate is an official ARM ADP partner and a rising star selected as one of the 2024 Global Star Fabless 30, and is recognized for its technological prowess in the fields of high-performance computing (HPC) and vision artificial intelligence (AI) solutions.
Supergate CEO Seungpil Shim said, “Through our collaboration with Aegic Land, we have come one step closer to advancing and commercializing VPUs,” and “Based on our customized semiconductor design capabilities, we will continue to secure technological competitiveness in the high-performance computing market, including autonomous driving.”

“This turnkey service contract, which covers everything up to post-processing, is a symbolic achievement that demonstrates our technological expertise and reliability, and will serve as an opportunity to further strengthen our position in the next-generation AI chip market,” said Jongmin Lee, CEO of Aegic Land. “Based on our strategic partnership with Supergate in the Edge AI ecosystem, we will also accelerate our entry into the global market.”
